Policies
At Alliance Française de Berkeley, we aim to provide a rewarding language-learning experience. We've established clear policies to ensure a seamless journey through enrollment, attendance, and unforeseen circumstances.
Our language classes are subject to language proficiency requirements as outlined in the course descriptions.
- Visit https://www.afberkeley.org to enroll online or call us at 510 548 7481. Please note class sizes are limited to 8 students to ensure an engaging learning environment.
- Submit tuition fees and any additional fees during enrollment. You'll receive a complimentary AFB membership, which offers discounts at events or free entry and is valid for one year from your last class attendance.
- Once your enrollment application and payment are processed, you'll receive a confirmation email with course details, including schedule, location, and required materials
Regular class attendance and active participation are expected. Missed classes are forfeited, but you may request to attend another class during the same session to make up for it (subject to availability and staff approval)
If enrollment for our group classes falls below the minimum requirement of 4 students, the class may be canceled. In such cases, you'll be notified promptly via email or phone. You'll then have the following options:
- Transfer: You may transfer to another available course during the same semester that suits your schedule and level (subject to availability).
- Credit Option: You can receive credit for another course in a future semester or private lessons. Please note that price adjustments may apply for private lessons.
- Full Refund: If you prefer, you can opt for a full refund of the course fees
- Pro-rated enrollment is as follows:
- Cancellation 7 days or more before class starts: Full refund of tuition fees, minus a $30 administrative fee.
- Cancellation within 6 days of class start: No refunds, but course credits are offered for future sessions, valid for group or private classes and workshops.
- Cancellation after classes begin: No refunds, but remaining class value may be applied, at AFB's discretion, to future group classes, private classes, or workshops
AFB will assign another instructor if a specific instructor becomes unavailable rather than cancel the group or private class. Should the student still decide to withdraw, the "Student-Initiated Cancellations" refund policy mentioned above will apply
The cost of course materials (e.g., textbooks, workbooks) is non-refundable.
